ABOUT US

was founded shortly before the First World War and, with 15 grass courts, was the largest club in the south of England (even, at the time, bigger than Wimbledon!). It was built in the wooded valley that Brancaster Lane and Purley Bury Avenue now run through, some ten years before the first houses appeared.
The grass courts were converted to allotments during the Second World War but folklore has  it that a bonfire was lit where the present courts now are to celebrate VE day.
After the war the land was restored as the Purley Bury Social and Sports Club, with three sections: tennis, bowls and croquet. The tennis courts, changed from clay to today's all-weather surface in 1985, were fully relaid in 1999. All courts are floodlit.
Facilities include a practice wall, short tennis and a junior club room. Full coaching facilities are available.
The Club has over the years created an excellent social side with well-appointed club house and bar with fully licensed facilities. Here one can have a relaxing drink and conversation, watch TV, or play bar-billiards, pool and darts.
Various club membership categories are available including: Full, Mid-week, Practice, Junior and Social. If you are interested in joining, click here for the Membership Request email form.
